THE TOWN

Pickering is a pleasant market town set at the edge of the North York Moors, one of the largest and most beautiful areas of open moorland in England. Pickering is within easy reach of some of the most impressive country in this area, a paradise for walkers with areas such as Rosedale, on your doorstep. In addition Pickering is a short drive away from the coast within easy reach of Whitby and Scarborough or smaller beaches such as Robin Hoods Bay.
Of course Pickering is also home to the North York Moors Railway, a heritage railway run primarily by volunteers who run steam trains between Pickering and Whitby. Along the route is Goathland, also known as Aidensfield, famous home of ‘Heartbeat’ but a beautiful place in its own right. Pickering also has an impressive church which contains some beautiful wall paintings, it’s own museum, Beck Isle Museum and a castle which is operated by English Heritage.
The town of Pickering is a vibrant market town with ample facilities for your holiday. Pickering enjoys many excellent pubs, restaurants and tea shops many of which we can personally recommend. In addition Pickering has two reasonably sized supermarkets and a variety of small shops many selling local produce. There is also a trout farm where you can hire rods and catch your own tea.
